Keeping the Homeless Warm – One Square at a Time

Earlier this spring, AKC Marketing helped spread the word about the launch of Central Iowa Shelter & Services’ (CISS) summer awareness campaign in the blog, Help Keep the Homeless Warm! Since then, CISS has received a number of generous donations from the community including, t-shirts, fabric markers, puff-paints, quilting fabric, etc.

As part of the campaign, CISS has participated in various community events this summer such as the Des Moines Arts Festival and Downtown Farmer’s Market. Since last count, visitors have decorated over 600 fabric squares that will soon be sewn into quilts and given to clients at the shelter to stay warm this winter.

The shelter is well on its way to handing out a number of warm blankets to clients this winter, but the work is far from over. There is still a need for various donations (fabric scraps, bed sheets, fabric markers, t-shirts, etc.) that can be used to decorate and create quilts, as well as a need for help assembling the quilts.

If you would like to donate materials, help assemble the quilts, or have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me at Kelley@akcmarketing.com or email Quilts4CISS@gmail.com. Ready to donate? Please feel free to drop the fabric off at the Shelter anytime. The address is:

Central Iowa Shelter & Services
205 15th Street
Des Moines, IA 50309

Stayed tuned for more later this year when completed quilts will be given to CISS clients (the homeless in our community) to help keep warm this winter.

Thank you for your support!
